堺市が推奨する「生きごみさん」は段ボール箱の中で土の中の微生物（好気性菌）等を活動させて生ゴミを分解する、環境に「やさしい生ゴミ減量・たい肥化の方法で、ガレージやベランダなどでも気軽にでき、においが少ないことが特徴です。それでは早速、「生きごみさん」の作り方と育て方についてみてみましょう！

Using “Mr. Compost" recommended by Sakai City is an eco-friendly way to reduce food waste and compost—that is, decompose food waste by making microorganisms (aerobic bacteria) in the soil active in a cardboard box. It is easy to make it in a garage or balcony, and it isn't as stinky as you might think. Let's take a look at how to compost with Mr. Compost!

① ホップ　分解床を作る　生ごみ投入のための準備をしよう！
・ステップ１　ダンボール箱(縦３０cm×横５０cm×高さ２５cm)を組み立て、そこを中央１本ガムテープで止める。
・ステップ２　新聞紙２〜３部を箱の底に平らになるように敷く。底上げ用の台（ブロック・ペットボトル等）にのせる。
・ステップ３　中袋を段ボールの箱の中で広げ、腐葉土１袋（１４L〜２０L）と米ぬか700g〜1kg程度を中袋の中にいれ、糠が端に固まらないようによくかき混ぜる。
・ステップ４　水を適量加える。(「手で握ると固まってすぐに崩れる湿り具合」を保ちましょう。)
・ステップ５　中袋の口を閉じ箱のフタをして、１〜2日ほど寝かせる。ベランダや玄関など雨が直接かからない場所に置きましょう。

Make the compost space.
Get ready for food waste.

Step 1
Assemble the Mr. Compost cardboard box (W: 30 cm × L: 50 cm × H: 25 cm) and secure the bottom of the box with packaging tape where the flaps join in the middle as pictured.

Step 2
Spread two to three sheets of newspaper in the bottom of the box. Put the box on a raised stand (blocks or plastic bottles will work).

Step 3
Open out the bag in the box. Put one bag of mulch (14 to 20L) and rice bran (700g to 1kg) into the bag. Mix well so as not to leave rice bran in the corners.

Step 4
Moisten with enough water to allow the mixture to briefly hold its shape when squeezed.

Step 5
Close the bag and then close the box. Let it rest for one or two nights on a balcony or an entryway where it won't get rained on.

●ポイント 中袋について
ステップ３の写真では、ホームセンターなどで売っている黒色の不織布のカバンを使用していますが、特大のネット（目の細かいもの）や土のう袋などで代用可能です。土を混ぜるときや箱の取り替え時に便利です。
※ビニール袋など、通気性の悪いものは使わないようにしましょう。

*Do not use a non-breathable plastic bag.
